After 100 zillion years, I am doing a "tagged" sort of journal. This one comes from my talented buddy
and here it goes: 1. What are your favorite books to read? Put down maybe a maximum of 5-10 books.
I am a terrible reader and I rarely read any books! (comics and articles don't count, of course) I usually think of The Little Prince as one of my fav books, it was a childhood-fav and I love the whole concept and world it creates. I also really enjoyed a compilation of Edgar Allan Poe's tales, featuring works such as The Black Cat, The Masque of the Red Death, The Cask of Amontillado and The Tell-Tale Heart. And recently, my gf lent me "Salmonella Men on Planet Porno", by Yasutaka Tsutsui, and it was an amazing book! My fav story from it was "The Very Edge of Happiness" totally crazy tale, recommended.2. Favorite character designs?
CAPCOM <3 Darkstalkers characters, particularly Bishamon, Anakaris, Phobos among others. Anything created by Bengus, really. I also dig Star Gladiator/Plasma Sword characters. Kinu Nishimura's work on Dungeons & Dragons and Cyberbots, a lot! Of course I love most of the SF cast (pre SF4, PLEASE!)
Silent Hill monsters and decadent humans, Demon's/Dark Souls awesome and dark armor and creature designs, Gurren Lagann's amazing "stretchy" mechas, all of Metroid's creatures and mechanic design as well. And there's a lot more but I don't wanna get you guys bored.3. Top 5 favorite games?
IMPOSSIBLE QUESTION, PLEASE MAKE IT 50!
...Considering that, I will put some all time favs here: Super Metroid, Street Fighter III 3rd strike, Silent Hill, Demon's Souls, Super Castlevania IV.4.Favorite piece of art from your favorite artist?
Okay that is impossible, I don't even have a fav artist, lol! I will leave you with this: rlateef.files.wordpress.com/20…
which is the best way you can draw Ryu, IMO. And that's a TOUGH task. Done by Kinu Nishimura 5. Favorite comics?
In no particular order: The Sandman, Weapon X, Watchmen, Berserk, HunterXHunter6. Top things that inspired you as a kid?
Dinosaurs, Videogames, films (martial arts, sci fi, horror, adventure), human anatomy, science and space.7. Least favorite style/trends in art?
The recent realistic superhero comics with digital color which are a bad mixture of super detailed ink drawings and a dull, boring and mood-less basic digital coloring. Artists who are all about drawing faces and not much more else (Ilya Kuvshinov, for instance) aare boring to me, even if they're good. Extremely gray and gritty artwork, the ones that usually are a mashup of photo textures, photos, 3d, complex brushes and the result is a monochrome boring, chaotic and overtextured HDR-like image. Some videogames use that art for concepts. Ew! 8. Favorite filmmaker/director?
Adrian Lyne, Paul Verhoeven, Stanley Kubrick, John Hughes, Steven Spielberg, many more 9. Dream job?
Working as a part of Capcom Design crew in the 80s and 90s (not now, their games suck), Working on a 2d Metroid, making a good platformer game in general... or a shmup, or a beat'em up, I think I have a good knowledge to use in making a good game within those genres. Also, being paid for traveling and doing stuff would be amazing (like eating!) 10. Is there an artist(s) that you used to like a lot, but don't anymore? Why?
Artgerm.- Too predictable to my current taste, also he made my beloved Capcom characters into something gray and lifeless.
Tetsuya Nomura.- I loved FF7 and 8, After Kingdom Hearts and the following games I realized he can't draw something different to that.
Boris Vallejo.- Has great technique, but looks too stiff and outdated, compared to Frazetta or Justin Sweet, for instance.
I don't know what else to say, if I forgot something or you'd like to read more/better answers, just ask
I tag... nobody, feel free to steal this
