I'm finally convinced that there's no such thing as a "great year" or a "terrible year". A year is just a year, it seems to be some kind of... pattern, if you want to call it that way. Year 2009 had all kinds of moments, it started just regularly, got better, then even better, lots of exciting things happening at the same time, then all those things disappeared or moved to somewhere/someone else and hurt or discourage. And the formula seems to repeat itself; 2008, same thing... regular, more expectations, better, things crash down, back to normality (which means shit-like). 2007... pretty much the same. Before that I don't remember _that_ clearly but it seems to be just a dull, non-surprising pattern. There's no thing as good or bad years at all, some things just happen and then un-happen and then they'll eventually pop up again. Sometimes they'll change its name or appearance, some others they won't.
New year is just that, turning a calendar page, or a change in your computer's clock date. New year's resolutions are quite useless, I am what I am, and that won't be determined by the calendar saying january 1. Things just happen, and what's happening now is that I wrote a not too interesting journal.
At least new year is an excuse for you guys to go and get drunk, hug some people and scream.
And btw, you might wonder, is this a rant or emo speech? hells no. If you know that life is so plain and not surprising and repetitive, that's an even better reason to think it's up to us to decide what will we do about it. We ourselves decide if we'll do exciting things or not, if we want to put effort into goals, if we want to laugh or cry when facing life's threats. It won't be decided by what life looks like, by your preconceptions or by your fears. Fear was created as a tool we use to try harder and overcome stuff. When in battle, a brave man is not the one without fear, is the one who decides to do something when afraid, instead of surrending.
So guys, go out and celebrate new year if you feel like, partying is always good. Run, talk, dance, speak, draw, eat, drink, fuck, feel. Do things instead of thinking, cause you might die tomorrow.
I'll finish this stuff with my favorite John Lennon quote (and one of the best quotes I've ever heard):
Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans
