Horror Movies

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 22, 2008, 9:47 PM

Hi deviants,

I've recently been watching some horror/creepy movies from different countries, and I'd like to share my humble opinion with you, and to hear what do you think or expect about them.
The movies I saw, chronologically, were:

-Shutter (thailand)
-The Orphanage (Spain)
-An American Haunting (US)
-A Tale of Two Sisters (South Korea)

and my thoughts on them(spoiler free, unless your comments have them and I have to reply) are:

Shutter: genius. though the main plot is kinda usual nowadays (dead people bugging living people), the story has some really interesting twists, acting is good and the scary parts REALLY scare you. I guess this is my fav between the 4, I really felt every moment of it.

The Orphanage: pretty good overall. nice, elegant cinematography, great acting and interesting story, non-obvious at most parts. I'd say this is more of a... "paranormal drama" than a horror movie, but it's still creepy. recommended.

An American Haunting: I read somewhere that sevearl people HATED this flick, lol. wasn't my case, I admit at the beginning it had some trouble to "get you into the mood" to watch it, it might be me but when someones's "telling" you a story that previously happened I kinda lose the interest. but as movie goes on, it has some really good moments, it's totally a "boo!" kind of movie, my sister grabbed my arm through the whole movie, hahahaha. Donald Sutherland was pretty good on the main role, I only think it was kinda repetitive at the scary scenes, a bit of more surprise or suspense would have been cool.

A Tale of Two Sisters: Ok, this one's complicated. I've heard LOTS of good comments about this one being a masterpiece and one of the most scary movies ever. The thing is... I got scared almost nothing during the 100 minutes. The movie WAS good, great photography and mood, but too slow IMO, I had to wait around 40 minutes to get some kind of goosebumps or "wow", and despite the plot developed in an original way, I still had some "what the...?" moments near the end, so I kinda missed part of the climax. I think I should watch it again, but it wasn't as scary as I expected.

Any thoughts? other horror flick suggestions?
take care guys and don't forget to eat your breakfast.
